I thought I knew what self-love was. I thought I loved myself.
Enough to leave home at the age of 16 and make it on my own.
Enough to protect myself from being in a long-term relationship most of my life because I didn’t want to experience the abuse that my Mother endured in so many of her relationships.
Enough to work my way up the proverbial corporate ladder into a six-figure job, putting everything else after my career, because that’s what I thought it meant to have it all.
But none of that was self–love. It was based on self-preservation. I would realize many years later that my intentions weren’t based on love at all, they were based on what I thought I had to do to survive.
The truth is, for most of my life up until recent years I didn’t love myself at all. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it was more like self-loathing.
Nothing I did felt like enough. There was always more I could do in my job, a better house, a better car, a healthier weight or a better education.
Despite all that I had achieved in life, I still felt pretty crappy about myself.
I gave and gave to others but never to myself. I never celebrated my achievements, and I always cut myself down.
If I treated anyone remotely the way I treated myself that would be considered abuse, plain and simple.
This is what I’ve learned.
The Universe shows up for us as well as we show up for ourselves. If we’re unfulfilled, and we always put everyone and everything ahead of ourselves, that is precisely what will be reflected back to us. We may experience a certain level of success, but we have to work a lot harder to get there.
Self–love means
✨ tuning into your intuition, learning how to listen to yourself & build your self-confidence
✨ making self-honoring decisions that allow you to pursue your passions
✨ feeling free to engage in activities that you want, not what others want for you
✨ nourishing yourself with choices that lead to greater happiness & well being
✨ letting go of what no longer fits with who you are, making space to receive what supports you, creating a life you love
Do you have the job you want?
The relationships you want?
The lifestyle you want?
Do you feel free to be who you REALLY want to be?
If you answered no to any of these questions, then it’s time to take a look in the mirror. Deep, lasting transformation and real change toward having a fulfilled, happy and free life starts with you, and it starts within.
When you start showing up for yourself, The Universe will show up for you too… x10!!
It starts with deciding to prioritize yourself. This is about supporting your physical, emotional, mental, & spiritual growth.
To BEcome that version of yourself, you have to make decisions based on where you want to be, not where you are now.
