Everyone has an intuitive ability. What’s different for each person is the extent to which they are tuned in.

Intuition is defined as the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.

Society in many ways still values decision making based on conscious reasoning over instinctive feeling. As a result of this, you’ve been taught to make decisions based on your five senses, what you can smell, touch, see, taste or hear.

But what about your sixth sense, your intuition?

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. – Albert Einstein

How many times have you said or heard someone say,

“I knew I should have listened to my gut.”

“I had a hunch.”

That is your intuition.

How many times have you immediately had an answer to something and then continued to go back and forth questioning yourself before finally making a decision? The first answer that came to you, THAT was your intuition.

Whenever you feel unfulfilled, that is your intuition letting you know that you need to change your situation.

Learn to let your intuition-gut instinct-tell you when the food, the relationship, the job isn’t good for you (and conversely, when what you’re doing is just right). – Oprah Winfrey

Conscious reasoning is useful for validation, but the truth is you can make decisions that serve your highest good based on your intuition. The only reason why you don’t today is that you continually question it.

To follow your intuition you first need to tune in to receive guidance.

Here are five tips that will help you rediscover the astonishing power of insight that is already within you, that is your intuition.

Get quiet and still.

It’s hard to hear yourself when you’re always doing something or saying something. Make time for reflection. Just BE.

Be present.

Focus on where you’re at now, and how you feel. Not where you need to be in the future, or focused on what happened in the past.

Move.

Make time for play and exercise. Disrupt your pattern. Movement creates space for you to receive and hear your inner guidance.

Trust.

Pay attention to what comes up for you…the first time. Trust that what you’re receiving is right for you and don’t question it. You know what’s best for you.

Choose differently.

Remember that what is best for you isn’t always logical. Choose instinctive feeling over conscious reasoning.

Consistently follow these tips and it will become easier over time to tune in to your intuition with minimal effort.
