You pride yourself on managing your time well.
But what about the QUALITY of time you spend with other people or the quality of work you produce within that time? You can’t manage that in a calendar or planner, and more time isn’t the answer.
When you spend time with other people, do you feel connected?
When you’re working on something, are you focused 100%?
Here are four tips to be present and connected in everything you do that will enhance your quality of work and the quality of time you spend with others.
Listen
Truly listen. Instead of thinking about what you’ll say while the other person is still talking, stay focused on what you’re receiving from that person and then respond.
Engage
Ask open-ended questions to show that you’re genuinely interested in others thoughts and what they contribute.
Focus on breathing…
Take a few moments to breathe deeply, inhaling and exhaling. Listening to, and feeling your breath will bring you into the present moment.
Do one thing at a time…
AVOID multitasking. It’s counterproductive; you’re not connected and focused 100% when you’re trying to see how many people and tasks you can juggle at the same time.
It’s okay to think about the future and other things that need doing, but don’t unpack and stay there.
Live in the present, live now.
